DESCRIPTION

The Genetic Counselor will provide primary and/or follow up genetic counseling to clients/families referred for pre-conception and prenatal genetic indications or other reproductive issues. Participate in the CA prenatal screening program, satellite prenatal diagnosis clinics, or other genetics service lines as needed. Involvement in clinical research and educational activities for health providers and lay groups as required.

This position is a clinical genetic counselor for Maternal Fetal Care & Genetics that will provide direct patient care primarily for preconception and prenatal patients as well as clinical support to other staff members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master's degree in Genetic Counseling or an applicable science and eligibility for certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  • Licensed as Genetic Counselor or a Temporary Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of medical genetics, especially the basic principles of genetic counseling, and ability to apply knowledge from the areas of obstetrics, dysmorphology, and other related medical specialties.
  • Demonstrated counseling skill and ability to provide genetic counseling with minimal supervision. Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary genetics/health team while providing genetic counseling.
  • Knowledge of research techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate genetics research projects.
  • Ability to deliver presentations to professional and lay groups.
  • Demonstrated skill in writing comprehensive counseling reports.
  • Demonstrated awareness of psychological aspects of genetic counseling and ability to interact effectively with clients and families in stressful situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively relate with clients and families, genetic counseling team, and other health professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient medical information.
  • Ability to function independently while completing assigned responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $99,549 - $131,359 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $47.68 - $62.91

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
