This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Campus and remote.
DESCRIPTION
The Finance & Budget Manager plays a vital role in supporting the fiscal responsibility and strategic goals of the Business and Financial Services (BFS) department at UC San Diego. Working closely with the UC San Diego Controller, this key position is responsible for planning, developing, monitoring, and adjusting budgets to ensure alignment with departmental objectives with a high degree of autonomy.
The Finance & Budget Manager oversees financial planning and resource allocation, maintaining financial transparency through regular reporting to management. This includes tracking performance against budgets, identifying areas of concern, and suggesting budget adjustments to support sustainable operations and success. The role requires advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways, involving in-depth evaluation of variable factors, judgment in selecting methods and techniques, and interaction with internal and external contacts at all levels.
Key responsibilities include preparing and presenting the annual budget to executive leadership, providing budgetary analysis to facilitate decision-making for the BFS Core Leadership Team and BFS Extended Core Leadership Team, and delivering business and resource analysis across the BFS organization. The Finance & Budget Manager will also develop and implement advanced financial models and analytical tools to inform management decisions, oversee long-term financial projections and analyses to support strategic planning, and maintain complex financial information systems.
Collaboration with key university stakeholders, including the VC-CFO, Campus Budget Office, and Office of the President, is critical to resolving financial and budget issues, ensuring data credibility, and driving strategic planning. The Finance & Budget Manager provides expert financial consultation to division leaders, manages financial resources, and supports the development of annual budgets and business analyses to facilitate senior management decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Ability to function as a member of a team.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
