DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. As a valued RRSS team member, you will be contributing to a broad and complex organization consisting of five key units: Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media, and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). With a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, RRSS aims to inclusively meet the diverse needs of the UC San Diego community while fostering a sense of belonging for our students and staff.

As a member of the HDH team, you will be part of a self-funded unit with over 900 staff employees, 1,000 student employees, and an annual operating budget of $250 million, providing housing and dining services to over 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and their families. Perform skilled journey level work independently or as part of a maintenance crew. Skilled in laying out, fabricating, and constructing cabinets and counters. Works from blueprints, drawings, written and verbal instructions. Constructs and repairs woodwork, partitions, benches, floors, and building framework. Installs ceiling and floor tiles, sheetrock, paneling, doors, door frames, windows, and window frames; inspects buildings, facilities, and equipment; recommends repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey level skill and knowledge in the carpentry and cabinet making trade, including, but not limited to, framing, finish carpentry, cabinet making laminate work, interior and exterior walls and ceiling sheathing and finishing, window repair and installation.

  • Knowledge of construction materials used in the carpentry trade.

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.

  • Ability to determine repair needs and inform supervisor.

  • Technical ability to learn and use a computer and handle device to communicate via email and complete MAXIMO work order.

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and work assignments.

  • Skills to organize and prioritize work. Ability to order and maintain parts and materials inventory and control stocking levels for assigned areas.

  • Skills to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Good interpersonal skills and diplomacy.

  • Strong demonstrated ability to read and follow instructions and manuals related to the carpentry trade.

  • Ability to safeguard areas and keys assigned.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, including greeting the customers, completing work in a professional, cooperative manner, providing a solution or an estimated time when you can get back to them, and following up till the job is completed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of many diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, and guests.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • Required to work overtime as needed.

  • Ability to work at extended heights.

  • Ability to carry tools and walk to various locations.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $90,703 - $90,703 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.44 - $43.44

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
