DESCRIPTION
Uses professional concepts. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. Works on problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Contacts are primarily internal to the department or unit.
Under supervision of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Financial Operations Manager, the Assistant Financial Analyst provides analysis in support of the department's budgets, finances, and resources. Monitors financial transactions, reconciles and audits ledgers and provides regular analysis of assigned funds. With direction, performs fund accounting, spending trend analysis, and prepares reports as needed. Assists in annual fiscal close processes. Utilizes campus systems and databases (e.g. UCPath, Oracle Financials) to reconcile and troubleshoot fiscal errors, partnering with appropriate internal and external units as needed Provide support on a variety of special projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Basic knowledge of accounting and financial reporting. Ability to apply financial concepts to processes.
Acquiring ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analysis assignments.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas, and prepare effective, thorough reports as needed.
Basic proficiency using spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Basic proficiency in utilizing financial reporting tools, queries, spreadsheets, and pivot tables.
Basic interpersonal skills; broad service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Under management guidance, uses organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability and skill to exercise sound judgment with the acumen and sensitivity to identify those decisions and activities which require higher level consultation and/or group collaboration.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to set priorities and to organize a varied workload to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions.
Ability to function as a member of a team. Ability to work within a team framework, participating in group discussions regarding systems, procedures, and goals of the units.
Basic knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to self-motivate, to independently follow tasks through to completion and to take ownership of work performance.
Willingness and ability to embrace and consistently uphold the principles of community for a collaborative work environment.
Ability to effectively compose correspondence in appropriate format (including business memos, letters, etc.), skill to proofread and correct for grammar, spelling, punctuation, typographical errors, clarity, syntactical correctness and continuity.
Ability to learn, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with demonstrated experience in utilizing good judgment and discretion when working with a variety of sensitive issues or highly confidential information.
Problem solving skills and ability to utilize innovative strategies to identify and recommend solutions.
